Hosting, Web Hosting
Hosting (also known as web hosting, website hosting, web site hosting, web hosting and webhosting) is a business that consists in host, serving, and maintaining files for one or more websites. More important than the computer space that is provided to the archives of the website is the fast Internet connection. Most hosting services offer connections that would be expensive to a single person would be expensive. Using a hosting service lets many companies share the cost of a fast Internet connection to access files on their websites.
Some hosting companies describe their services as virtual hosting. Virtual hosting usually implies that their services will be transparent and that each has its own website domain and hosting their own email addresses. In most cases, the hosting and virtual hosting are synonyms. Some hosting companies allow their users to have their own virtual server, with the appearance that the user is controlling a server devoted entirely to your website.
Dedicated hosting service consists in the use of an entire server for one customer, while in the shared hosting several customers share a server. Only high-traffic sites require dedicated hosting. Many companies have their own servers and place them on a site that provides quick access to the Internet. This practice is called placement.
Hosting Services
There is a wide range of hosting services. The most basic is file hosting (web hosting or web hosting), where you can host the web site pages and other files via FTP or a Web interface. The files are displayed on the Web as is or with little processing. Many Internet providers offer this service free to their customers. The web hosting is typically free, advertiser-sponsored, or cheap.
Normally web hosting is just enough for personal web pages. A complex web site needs a more advanced package that provides support for database and application development platforms (eg PHP, Java, and ASP. NET). These allow customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and forms. For e-commerce also requires SSL.
The hosting provider can also provide a web interface (eg control panel) to manage Web server and installing scripts as well as other services like e-mail.
Types of hosting
The hosting can be divided into several general types:
-
Free Hosting: Free hosting is extremely limited compared to paid hosting. Free hosting providers typically require their own ads on the site hosted for free and have very large limits of space and traffic. However, most people start on the web with free hosting.
-
Image hosting: hosting only a few image formats. This accommodation is usually free and most require users to register. Most hosting providers allow hotlinking of images, so users can upload images to the provider's server to save space and bandwidth.
-
Shared hosting: shared hosting is when a single server hosts several hundred sites of different customers. A problem in one of the sites on the server can bring down the remaining sites. Shared hosting also has some restrictions on what can be done exactly, but these restrictions do not in any way as restrictive as in the free hosting.
-
Dedicated Hosting: With dedicated hosting, one gets a server just for him. There are no restrictions except those designed to maintain the integrity of the supplier (for example, banning sites with adult content due to the risk of increased attacks by hackers and legal issues). Unless you pay a fee to the provider side, you have to do everything by itself. This can be expensive, as the recruitment of a dedicated server itself is generally more expensive compared to shared hosting.
