Google's History
Spring of 1995:
Sergey Brin (then 23 years) and Larry Page (24), cofounders by Google and now president and CEO, in an act known to Stanford University for organizing a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science.
Fall of 1995:
January of 1996:
As indicated in its description, Backrub is written in Python and Java (including Larry Page paste any questions in the 'newsgroups'), and runs on several Sun Ultra machines with Linux and Intel Pentium. The database is housed on a Sun Ultra II computer with 28GB hard disk.
If you have any doubts about what is the search engine, and is not answered in their FAQ, you can call (415) 723-3154 and ask for Larry. The first users are students and professors from Stanford, who enjoy the precision with which the search engine finds data on the web.
1997: 'Backrub' se transforma en 'Google'.
This peculiar name given by its similarity to the word 'googol,' which in English is the name given to the'10 figure increased to 100 '(a one followed by 100 zeros). They already have 24 million pages indexed. Much earlier, already had capacity problems on their hard drives, and have had to devise ingenious Lego based, like this.
In the early days of Google (in the domain google.stanford.edu), its design is even more austere and will be later. This old version will include photographs of the equipment they use.
1997: Larry and Sergey have registered the domain 'google.com'.
January 1998:
That's when Larry Page's room became the new home of Google, carrying all equipment next to his bed. Sergey Brin's room, located next to Larry, became the finance office.
Google is still indexing pages quickly, and Larry and Sergey require much more capacity on their hard drives. They have to buy a terabyte, and finally manage to buy several hard drives sale, all for $ 15,000.
Despite the 'fever of the dot-com' in those days, Larry and Sergey can not find an investor who financed Google, and have to get all the money from their families and close friends. Meanwhile, had abandoned his PhD in Stanfor
Summer of 1998:
In the porch of the house of a common friend, the professor from Stanford University David R. Cheriton, Sergey and Larry know Andy Bechtolsheim (Sun Microsystems co-founder and vice president of Cisco Systems), begin to talk about Google. After thirty minutes, they signed a check for $ 100,000 (later they signed another of equal size) in the name of 'Google Inc'. "Basically the kids need to test machines and servers for its new concept, and to pay lawyers who will assist with legal issues," said Bechtolsheim later. "And I wanted to be sure of the company."
However, 'Google Inc.' as such, does not exist, and in order to cash the check (which is two weeks on the table for Larry), they have to find a local, and found a new company: "Google Inc. '.
September 1998:
